Relationships
Marquita Dorsey is a Mental Health Advocate, Certified Coach, educator, and founder of The Light Room, a purpose-driven platform helping individuals move from mental health awareness to meaningful action. Through her work, she equips people with the knowledge, language,
resources, and confidence to advocate for their well-being, navigate life’s barriers, and pursue healthier, more fulfilling futures.
What makes Marquita’s perspective distinctive is the way she brings together academic preparation, professional training, lived experience, faith, and a deep commitment to practical empowerment. A Mississippi native now residing in San Antonio, Texas, she understands that mental wellness is shaped not only by personal choices but also by relationships, access to resources, career challenges, trauma, community, and the courage to seek support.
Marquita holds an Associate of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a focus on Social Justice and Criminology. She has also completed specialized training in mental health advocacy, coaching, healthy relationships education, mental health first aid, and trauma-informed ministry, along with graduate-level coursework in professional counseling. This multidisciplinary background allows her to approach mental health conversations with compassion, insight, and a practical understanding of the systems and circumstances that affect
people’s lives.
As a speaker, wisdom writer, coach, and experienced podcast host, Marquita creates spaces where people can have honest conversations about mental health, resilience, self-advocacy, relationships, and personal growth. Through workshops, digital platforms, community engagement, and The Light Room, she transforms complex topics into accessible guidance that helps individuals recognize their strengths, identify next steps, connect with support, and take ownership of their well-being.
Marquita’s impact is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: mental health advocacy must go beyond awareness. People deserve more than encouragement to “speak up.” They deserve education, access, practical tools, supportive communities, and the confidence to act on their own behalf. Her work helps audiences see that seeking help is not a weakness, healing is not a straight line, and meaningful change often begins with one intentional step.
Personal Philosophy: “Your mental health and your life’s direction cannot be left to chance. You must be intentional about your healing, courageous in your self-advocacy, and willing to take the steps that move you from barriers to breakthroughs. You do not have to have it all figured out to begin, but you do have to believe that your well-being matters.”
